few weeks ago they asked for me to compose an essay on a painting by Hopper, one of the Nighthawks and I, being a good researcher, went to find out. Art is definitely something universal, transcendent to the space and time, which makes it readable over the course of many centuries. The meanings alter, as does the way the world and society change and what used to be clearly seen, perhaps several years ago, is now so obvious. Night has a completely different meaning to me than those who went to bars in the United States during the 40s as the sun's path down, the city transforms its appearance and streets become more open and easy.We must not forget how society has evolved in more than half a century of cultural and social changes. This is the time of day when the energy is more intense, intense but of tranquil, spiritual intensity.There is no solitude nor absence in the painting of Hopper.
