a few weeks ago, they asked I write an article on one of the paintings by Hopper, the Nighthawks and I, being an experienced researcher, was able to learn more. Since it is generally known or at the least taught by experience, to understand a painting, one must know its history as well as the artist and most importantly the context within the context in which Hopper painted it. It is surely something universal, transcendent to the space and time, and therefore accessible even in the midst of centuries. However, the interpretations change, along with how society and the world evolve and what was once able to be easily seen, maybe years after, is not so obvious. What was unthinkable before, today could reveal our work in a totally different manner.Re-defining a work over timeThis is similar to what I imagine happens when you look at the work of Hopper's " Nighthawks" that was shut at the bar, late at night, in that window that resembles a fish tank, in the same position as the characters he that are observed.I think that in the painting Hopper would have wanted to provide space to the viewer, allowing him to observe the silent serene, well-detailed and peaceful scene given to us by the dark night. This space, conceived for an active audience, is perhaps the keystone that allows the artwork to change in the course of time, and to be timeless, immortal, modern, even very modern. The work, created in 1942, is not immediately linked to a specific historical moment However, it is believed that its date can be altered depending on the changing viewer, according to the time in the period in which the work is viewed. My opinion is that this is what is essential to reading, the space dedicated to the reader Hopper desired to create.I'll explain. While researching information and news on Hopper's " Nighthawks" I was able to be aware of how many people have described the film by highlighting these aspects:"[...] the loneliness, the sense of emptiness of an environment whose glistening patina begins to give way [...] The distinctively commercial character of the myths is that they peel off their masks to reveal an unrealized reality, devoid of valid points of reference Isolated by doubt and a lack of morality. "Night and transformationI think this interpretation is a little ambiguous which means that it is an interpretation given from the socio-cultural context and by the date associated with the work: it was the United States between the 40s and 50s, during the period of economic growth which redefined the cultural and social assets that were a part of the lives of the people, a society that is even a bit bourgeois, in which nightclubs are seen as places of isolation, despair and existential emptiness. This is somewhat true and somewhat not. When I first saw this painting, and without having studied it, it gave me lots of joy and peace, with its bright contrast and its nocturnal stillness. If I'm from an extremely noisy and crowded metropolis, the night is one of those times that I am able to enjoy the city in a more peaceful way there are fewer people more cars and less noise, more open spaces to choose, and the best place to be, beneath the starless urban sky. The night is a different meaning to me than those who frequented bars in The United States during the 40s When the sun sets down the city changes its face, the streets are more open and easy.We cannot ignore how society has evolved in more than half a century of cultural and social shifts, that occurred between Pop and Rock culture, between psychedelic movement and the 2000s.As a girl in the 90s, I grew up also at night, and by growing up I mean all the "formative" experiences that the night gave me. It is for me common to be out in the evening, often walking through the neighborhood on Saturdays , looking for the most memorable nightclub, dancing till dawn and riding around on a motorbike or car to locate the last bar that is open to grab the hot pizza or croissant, where to drink the last glass and light the last cigarette before sunrise arrived. Maybe fromhttps://canvas.instructure.com/eportfolios/582419/Home/Cracking_The_Hoppers_Nighthawks_Secret, the night no longer frightening those who stayed at their homes (let's keep in mind the anti-prohibitionism movement and jazz movement and the notorious Cursed Poets who were all great nights owls) and it has become the cradle where many personalities are able to enjoy the comfort and peace of other nighthawks.Hopper's contemporary realismToday, Hopper's painting is reminiscent of many scenes of real contemporary life, and makes me almost happy and, in all likelihood, compassionate, especially with the final three characters, who have a chat while the bartender is cleaning the bar to end the day and then open another. The nocturnes want to rest in the quiet of the nocturnal company, reflect on their lives by watching them through a glass and form a group of the night, welcoming everyone and judging no one. It's not a coincidence that in the oldest primitive civilizations like the Indian one, the hour and a half before sunrise is known as Brahmamuhurta, or time of Brahma which is the ideal time to devote yourself to prayer, meditation as well as study and reflection. In this space of time the energy levels are higher, intense but of a calm, spiritual intensity.I don't see any solitude or emptiness in Hopper's painting; I saw more of it in the streets that were gentrified in the night quarters. This is because even the right-thinking citizens began going out at night. So that, evenhttps://pastelink.net/sy3fdle3and historic areas were transformed into marketplaces for consumers; and the spontaneous aggregations of people in the square were required to arrange their groups in line waiting to be seated; and the music of the drums along the the street was silenced by the police sirens. This is what worries me today that nighttime is degraded by its mystical, timeless ambience and by the fact that it is a moment of aggregation for the lone wolves, and is now an additional uncovering tool of the system, demanding clarity and respectability even from the darkest corners of the city.
